When the Colony Talks Back

#ui#colony#feedback

A busy colony used to go quiet until you clicked something. Workers looked identical at mid zoom, blocked workshops waited for an inspector open, and a morning after a raid left you reconstructing what happened from memory. This ship is about the settlement speaking first.

Thought badges on the street

Nearby settlers now carry small cameo badges for needs, work, haul goods, and sleep. The hauled material shows on the badge instead of a generic wood icon. At mid zoom they stay readable; pull the camera far enough and they hide so the skyline stays clean.

Problems that find you

When a workshop sits idle, a path breaks, or a stockpile starves a line, alerts stack on the right edge with real icons and badges. Click one and the camera focuses the building with a highlight — you fix the jam without hunting the grid.

Place juice and parchment pops

Placing or removing a building settles with a short motion and a sandy dust plume. Construction progress and resource gains rise as parchment pops with bold counts, so the economy you just touched answers in the world instead of only in the top bar.

Stats without leaving the dock

J opens a compact statistics panel above the build dock: population, happiness, military (equipped only), and production nets with sim-hour history graphs. Hover chips explain the series; the dock stays usable underneath.

Also landed with this ship

  • Dawn recap: mornings that had something to report show a short bronze card — births, raids, notable dips — then clear out of the top bar.
  • Building hover cards: brush a placed hut for a compact fact sheet without opening the full inspector.
  • Repeat-last + build queue: place again with one key, or shift-click to queue several footprints.
  • World SFX: birds, town, water, quarry, chop, and combat hits ride under the music beds, with bus options in the settings panel.
  • Night window glow: connected openings light at dusk instead of reading as dark timber dust.

What to feel in a build

  • Orbit a busy street at mid zoom — thought badges should name what people are doing without selecting them.
  • Starve a workshop or break its path — an alert should appear and focus the building on click.
  • Place and remove a hut — dust and parchment pops should answer in-world.
  • Press J after a sim day — charts should match the top-bar mood, with the dock still reachable.
